An FIR was registered against Babulu by Sarpavaram police on January 30 on the basis of a complaint lodged by JNTU Registrar Subbarao who had forwarded a letter submitted to him by 20 girl students.
"Babulu was traced to the outskirts of Rajahmundry city late last night and was arrested," said Kakinada SP Ravi Varma.
The professor was produced in a magisterial court which remanded him in judicial custody, he said.
Around 20 girl students had alleged that the professor sexually harassed them while conducting viva voce tests last month.
