Sources in Human Resources Development Ministry said that nearly 3,500 institutions will be ranked in six categories. It is learnt there will be separate categories for technical institutions, management institutions and universities.
Research is one of the significant yardsticks in the ranking process and both the JNU and University of Hyderabad have performed quite well, the sources said.
The University of Hyderabad and JNU were in the news recently over the death of Rohith Vemula and sedition row, respectively.
