JNU prof selected to hold Prince Claus Chair in Netherlands

A Jawaharlal Nehru University professor has been selected to hold the prestigious Prince Claus Chair (PCC) at International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands.
"Dr Saradindu Bhaduri from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, has been selected to hold the prestigious Prince Claus Chair in Netherlands. Each year they select one person following a global search to hold this position for two years," a varsity notification said.
"This is an honorary position beginning September 2015, where Bhaduri will have to make occasional visits for research, lectures and public talks. His thematic focus will be on Frugal Innovation for Development and Equity," it added.
Frugal Innovation is a new field of innovation studies concerning a mode of design and doing business that brings relatively sophisticated products, services and systems within the reach of relatively poorer consumers in resource-constrained environments.
"The selected professor has an extensive network in his field of studies and will therefore able to connect researchers across borders and support the exchange of knowledge and experience from the Frugal Innovation hotbed India, to other emerging markets," the notification said.
The Prince Claus Chair was established in early 2003 for the advancement of research and teaching in the field of development cooperation. The objective of the Chair is to continue the work of Prince Claus (1926-2002) in development and equity.
Utrecht University and ISS alternately appoint an outstanding young academic from a developing region to the Chair.
