JNU teachers' association has demanded removal of the University's Registrar Bhupinder Zutshi alleging he has continued to feed the "campaign of maligning" the prestigious institution.

They also alleged that extension of Zutshi's term till March 31, 2016, would be a "violation" of the University's statutes and ordinance, which specify 62 years as the age of retirement of even a regular registrar.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) claimed that he will turn 62 years on March 9.

"He has been nominated as nodal officer of the University for the purpose of coordination and reply of Parliamentary questions to the ministry of HRD at the behest of the ministry, which is contrary to the University's procedure and a violation of its autonomy," JNUTA said at a press conference.

Accusing Zutshi of "informing police in advance" on February 9, when the controversial event that triggered a massive fallout was held, JNUTA said it was in "gross violation" of academic rules and regulations of the University.

"All issues within the University community should be resolved through discussions and negotiations and through the newly-instituted grievance redressal mechanism," it said.
