Various academicians and students from different universities across the country today passed a resolution at an "Education Parliament" against certain reforms in higher education such as CBCS and Central Universities Bill being rolled out by the government.
The "Education parliament" organised at Jantar Mantar by the students union of Jawaharlal Nehru University also raised the issue of alleged "saffronisation of education" and "substandard appointments" at various educational institutions.
"This Education Parliament strongly condemns the saffronized, partisan and sub standard appointments to various educational institutions and committees, aimed at saffronizing the content of education and also degrading the quality of education.
"The house extends solidarity with movements across institutions such as FTII, Pondicherry University and others where students are resisting such attempts and resolves to intensify the struggle against communalization of education and degradation of educational standards," the resolution said.
The participants at the Parliament included students and teachers representatives from Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Lucknow University, Aligarh Muslim University, IGNOU, Magadh University, JNU, Film and Television Institute of Idnia Pune, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Mumbai University, Osmania University, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay University( Gorakhpur), Patna University, Punjab University, Ram Manohar Lohiya Awadh University, Ruhelkhand Univ(Bareily), Thong Nokbe College, Uttar Pradesh Pravidik University, Veer Kunwar Singh University (Ara), West Bengal State University.
Representatives from the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) and Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) were also present during the deliberations.
"The Education Parliament strongly condemns the policy impositions such as the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) that are aimed at diluting the quality of education while adding to the existing burden on students and institutions. It resolves to intensify the ongoing struggle against the undemocratic imposition of CBCS across campuses," the resolution said.
"The Education parliament also condemns the attempts to communalize campus spaces by introducing policies such as separation of messes, targeting of academicians and students on the basis of their caste and religion or for standing up against saffronization attempts and also for administrative shielding provided to right wing hooliganism of fronts like ABVP which indulge in day light vandalism and violence with no fear for punishment," it added.
