The meeting was chaired by VC Jagdesh Kumar yesterday. The university administration has also identified two former students who were allegedly involved in the incident.
"Eight students who were identified to be involved in disruption of the meeting have been suspended and their hostel facilities have been withdrawn with immediate effect. A proctorial inquiry has also been instituted in the incident," a JNU official said.
The JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) "condemned" the move saying it will "resist" the suspension orders at all costs.
Notices have been sent to the accused students by the proctor, the university official said, adding that action was taken as per preliminary findings and it will remain in effect till the inquiry is completed.
