Ahead of varsity polls, the Left- backed All India Students Association today requested the JNUSU election committee to cancel the candidature of an ABVP candidate involved in assaulting JNU student Najeeb Ahmad who went missing last year.
In a statement AISA pointed out that RSS-backed ABVP had fielded Ankit Roy for the post of councillor, violating Lyngdoh Committee recommendations (LCR).
"This is to bring to your notice that the candidature of Ankit Roy standing for the post of councillor is in violation of LCR as Roy was found involved in the assault of Najeeb," the letter to the election committee said.
"We request in the interest of fair application of rules that Roy's candidature be cancelled," the AISA said.
According to a proctorial enquiry report, Roy and three other persons were involved in the scuffle with Najeeb.
