JOA announces teams and athletes for National Games

Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) announced list of teams and athletes of Jharkhand for the upcoming 35th National Games to be held from January 31 to February 14 in Kerala.
The list comprised of teams such as archery, athletics, boxing, football (women), Hockey, Weightlifting, Handball, swimming, rowing, wushu and Karate, among other events, Secretary General of JOA, S M Hashmi said today.
Altogether 292 athletes have been selected for the national games, besides coaches and manager, Hashmi said adding that the number of event as well as athletes would likely to go up as the national championships of few events would be held in September.
If those events and their players are qualified in the championships, they will be included in the Jharkhand contingent, he said.
Hashmi said JOA has sent a letter to the Jharkhand Government on Wednesday and urged to release fund for holding coaching camps for the mega event as the number of athletes for each events have been confirmed by the respective sports associations of the state.
Hashmi said the coaching camp will be held in three phases and finalized the list of players taking part in the first phase, which was expected to be held by this month end or in early September.
Among the teams announced by JOA, Hashmi said Athletics event will have maximum 45 players (men and women) followed by Hockey (men and women) 36, archery (men and women) 24, Wushu and canoeing and kayaking (men and women) 23 each, taekwondo (men and women) 16 players, and women football team will have 20 players, besides around 70 coach and managers.
Hashmi said a 15-member delegation of JOA and 10 journalists from the state would also be participate in the fortnight-long event.
