Joint Peace Mission of churches to involve all stakeholders
Press Trust of India Guwahati The Joint Peace Mission Team representing all churches of the North East region would encourage the government and civil society on the ongoing peace initiative undertaken to address the serious issues that cause anxiety to society in Meghalaya's Garo Hills district.
The JPMT in a two-day meeting concluding yesterday at the Garo Baptist Convention headquarters at Tura in Meghalaya discussed the present situation in Garo Hills district, said a GBC press release here today.
Observing negative forces were at work demotivating young people and leading them along the path of uncertainty, the meeting also noted that the many positive forces working for the development of the region be encouraged and strengthened.
The members of the churches appealed and invited persons of all ideologies, political parties, convictions and religious traditions with good will to come together to work for peace for the betterment of individual communities and the common growth of the people in the region, the release said.
The press release was signed among others by Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil and Assam Christian Forum and Assam State Minority Commission member Allen Brooks.
