The 56-year-old star said he and the 36-year-old Oscar-winning actress have always got on well despite their split and they still talk on a regular basis, reported Contactmusic.
"Absolutely we are friends. We have always been friends. See in the press ladies and gentleman sometimes if you get a divorce everyone assumes it was nasty and it is not always. It is not that I haven't had a couple of nasty ones, but this was not one of them," Thorton, who has been married five times, said.
Thorton recently spoke about how proud he was that Jolie and her fiance, actor Brad Pitt raise their six children together.
Thorton and Jolie were married from 2000 to 2003 and the pair split up in three months after they had adopted a son from Cambodia in 2002.
