The 44-year-old "No Country for Old Men" star was apprehended by law enforcement on January 1 in Santa Monica, reported TMZ online.
Brolin was reportedly at a party with a group of friends earlier in the night and had "too much fun", sources said.
The actor was apparently sent to jail at 3.02am, and later released at 7.14am.
He reportedly did not receive a citation for the arrest, and will subsequently not face a court hearing.
Brolin will be seen later this year opposite Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn in the crime thriller "Gangster Squad".
