: A group of journalists today began an indefinite fast here today, demanding that the state government provide the fraternity land as they have been demanding it for the last 20 years.
Led by Nandakumar of Raj TV, five-members of the Coordination Committee of Media Associations squatted on the premises of the District Collectorate.
A large number of media and press persons extended their solidarity with the group by sitting at the venue.
Those who spoke on the occasssion said journalists here had been demanding land at a concessional and nominal rate for the last 20 years.
Despite the land and allottees being identified during the DMK regime, no action was taken by District Collectors to implement the Government Order issued before the World Tamil Conference, Chemmozhi Maanada, held here seven years ago.
Meanwhile, Tamil film actor-director, Vijay T Rajendran visited the venue and wished them success.
He sought to know why journalists in the city neglected when government had provided land and other concessions to almost all sections of society.
