Jowar, maize strengthen on increased offtake

Prices of jowar and maize strengthened by up to Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on the back of increased offtake by consuming industries against tight stocks position.
However, other grains including wheat and rice basmati traded in a narrow range in limited deals and settled at last levels.
Traders said pick up in demand from consuming industries against tight stocks position on restricted supplies from producing belts mainly pushed up jowar and maize prices.
In the national capital, jowar (yellow) rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,900-2,000 per quintal. Maize also moved up by Rs 25 to Rs 1,625-1,635 per quintal.
