Chief organiser of the event, Sensei P K Gopalakrishnan told reporters here today that 1500 contestants would participate in the championship, being held for the first time in Kerala.
The contestants from Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman, Kuwait and UAE, besides India, will participate in the event, he said.
"It would be 'sports-karate' as the contestants would be allowed to wear chest and leg pads, helmet and gloves with a view to avoiding any untoward incident during the performance and attracting more participants," he added.
Competitions would be held under the kids, junior, sub-junior and adults categories. The championship is being organised by the JSKA-India, Gopalakrishnan said.
