JSPL surges nearly 5 pc as unit wins coal block in Chattisgarh

Shares of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd gained nearly 5 per cent after its unit Jindal Power grabbed Tara block in Chhattisgarh in the second leg of ongoing coal block auctions.
The scrip ended the day with a gain of 4.77 per cent at Rs 194.30 on the BSE. During the day, it surged 8.33 per cent to Rs 200.90.
At the NSE, it rose by 4.56 per cent to Rs 193.95.
The company's market value rose by Rs 810.58 crore to Rs 17,776.58 crore.
In terms of volume, 17.86 lakh shares of the company changed hands at the BSE and over one crore shares were traded at the NSE during the day.
Government kitty has swelled by Rs 12,591 crore with the sale of three mines to Hindalco, Jindal Power and Indrajit Power on Saturday, the third day of the second tranche of coal block auctions.
Jindal Power won Tara block in Chhattisgarh for Rs 2,103 crore.
Meanwhile, in the broader market the BSE benchmark Sensex ended with a sharp loss of 604.17 points at 28,844.78.
