"At the moment we are struggling to sell the power that we are generating and I don't think it makes any kind of sense for us to go for aggressive expansion at this time," JSW Energy Joint Managing Director and CEO Sanjay Sagar told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
He, however, said the company will continue to look at organic and inorganic growth opportunities but the market has to be right.
Commenting on the commercial coal mining, he said that it can certainly have a potential in India provided there is a level-playing field for companies.
"The commercial coal mining can certainly have a potential if we are given level-playing field with Coal India, that is we are given mines free of cost...We are also given the same kind of handholding as Coal India is given.
"Only then we will he able to give some competition to Coal India. We will be able to do commercial mining efficiently and we might be able to offer coal at prices cheaper than Coal India to consumer," he said.
