JSW ramps up cement capacity to 12.6 million tonne

JSW Cement, part of the USD 13 billion JSW Group, Monday said it has ramped up capacity to 12.6 million tonne per annum with a hike in Dolvi facility in Maharashtra.

The company is now eyeing 20 million tonne capacity by December 2020.

Cement capacity of JSW Cement stands at 12.6 million tonne after cement production capacity of Dolvi facility in Maharashtra was raised from 1 million tonne to 2.2 million tonne per annum, the company said in a statement.

The expansion, along with other capacity enhancement activity, is already underway at various location across the country that will take the combined installed capacity to 14 million tonne per annum by April 2019, the company said.

JSW Cement also said it plans to increase the capacity of Salboni unit in West Bengal from 2.4 million tonne per annum at present to 3.6 million tonne.

JSW Cement officials had earlier said beside capacity enhancement, a 18 MW captive power plant was also been proposed that may entail an estimated total combined investment of Rs 400 crore at Salboni.

"This capacity addition was in line with the companys commitment to strengthen its presence in eastern India, starting with West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand," JSW Cement zone head (east) Gautam Mukhopadhyay had said.

The company is bullish on the proposed development of 500 cities under the new Urban Development Mission and the initiative to build 100 smart cities expected to deliver greater benefits to the cement and construction sectors, it said.
