The Jadavpur University today tied up with an industry body and a management consultancy firm to do joint research and prepare business models to tackle sustainability challenges and climate change.
Students, researchers and faculty members from the university would work with industry experts from The Bengal Chamber and DFIC Management Consultants at the 'Centre for Energy and Climate Excellence' (CECE).
After signing a memorandum of understanding with the partners, Prof Abhijit Chakrabarti, Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University, said, "This would give our students the chance to go beyond academics and get industry exposure".
The new centre would undertake consulting and research-based activities towards meeting the needs of businesses in the realms of energy conservation, energy planning, and sustainable management practices.
P Roy, Director-General of The Bengal Chamber, said their overarching aim is to create a business model for value-added services in energy and environment management.
The Centre blends the professional and academic knowhow with industry needs and international knowledge access.

This also creates a great opportunity for JU students to connect with live projects and thus enable dissemination of knowledge while improving employability.
Mechanical engineering professor Sudipto Dey said they are looking at working on energy conservation issues with his students and researchers.
"We are in talks with various governmental bodies to start working on various projects. We will also get involved in advocacy work for promoting sustainability solutions in various fields," he told PTI.
With international knowhow and local expertise, the centre would act as a self-sustaining body for energy and climate mitigation related issues for PSUs and MSMEs.
