The Commission, to be headed by a retired judge, will study the implementation of the Plantation Labour Act in the tea gardens of the state and suggest suitable measures for their improvement, officials spokesman said today.
The Commission will look into the housing, health, education and other facilities being provided by the tea gardens under the Act.
Advisor to Chief Minister P P Varma has made an in- depth study of the working conditions in tea gardens of the state and come up with recommendations for certain improvements, especially in the health and education sectors.
It has been observed that the management of some gardens in the state have not been offering the facilities they ought to provide under the said Act.
The Chief Minister has directed the Labour and Employment Department to look into the matter seriously.
