Supreme Court judge Ananga Kumar Patnaik today said the problem of the judiciary is that it has to depend on legislators for its resources and suggested the central government provide 50 per cent under its budget every year to state judiciary.
"The problem of the judiciary is it has to depend on legislators for its expenses. If they do not provide the resources, the judiciary cannot function," he said during the release of report on governance and development 2013 by National Social Watch.
He said he had suggested the central government must provide 50 per cent under its budget every year to state judiciary.
"I suggested that the central government must provide in its budget every year 50 per cent to the state judiciary its establishment expenditure, salary, allowances..Everything is taken care by the central government budget. You do that and see how the judiciary runs," he said.
Stressing on the importance of the human mind to deliver a judgement and a whole lot of procedure involved in the process, he said the judiciary needs more judicial officers.
"This being the limitation, we need more number of judicial officers and judges," he said.
