"Health care is a critical sector, especially for women and new born and young children. Best possible care must be extended to them," he said.
Jung inspected the healthcare facilities available at the hospital, especially those for women and children apart from visiting the OPD Block, the labour room, children's ward, Thalassemia ward, new born intensive care unit and other wards.
During his visit, a presentation for construction of a new multi-disciplinary and state-of-the-art hospital building with 300 beds was made to the LG.
He expressed his desire that the new project for the Kasturba Hospital must be completed before 2017 in the interest of patient care.
Jung also gave suggestions for augmenting facilities for patients at the hospital and directed the authorities to concentrate on health awareness programmes for patients, including counselling for dietary habits and lifestyle diseases.
"Part of health care is also to help raise awareness about new age diseases, especially those related to lifestyle, so that corrective measures can be adopted by the people in their daily lives," he said.
