On the eve of 70th Independence Day, Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today underlined the need for living up to the ideals laid down in the Constitution, a comment seen as directed at the AAP government.
Urging people to renew their pledge to serve the nation, Jung stressed on the need to promote amity, tolerance and mutual respect among all sections of society.
"As we remember and pay homage to all those who sacrificed and laid down their lives and delivered this hard-earned freedom to us, let us renew our pledge to serve the Nation with ever greater sincerity, devotion and truth...We must live up to the ideals laid down in our Constitution," the Lt Governor said.
The comments came amid the bitter turf war between the AAP government and the Lt Governor on a range of several issues including transfer and posting of bureaucrats and commission of inquiries.
In a landmark judgement, the Delhi High Court had ruled that LG is the administrative head of the National Capital Territory.
Following the high court's order, Delhi Chief Minister had yesterday attacked the Centre and said Aam Aadmi Party will continue to fight for full statehood by going to any extent as "goons in the high echelons of the government hinder the work of Delhi."
Jung, in a release, urged the people to set an example of "good citizenship" and emphasized the need to treat everyone with respect and dignity, irrespective of caste, class, gender, community and religion.
