A junior engineer was arrested by anti-corruption vigilance sleuths in Odisha's Kandhamal district for allegedly possessing assets worth Rs 1.10 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Vigilance sleuths had raided the house of P Santosh Kumar Patra (48) at Bapuji Nagar third line here, his rented house at Tikabali, his office chamber at Chakapada in Kandhamal district and paternal house at Aska simultaneously on Friday before arresting him yesterday.
"After calculation of his income, we could figure out his ill-gotten money as he could not show its sources of income," vigilance SP (Berhampur) Manoranjan Panda said.
During the search, the vigilance personnel found a triple-storey and well-furnished building in the name of his wife Banishree Patra at Bapuli Nagar here worth around Rs 50.40 lakh, a flat at Jagamara (Bhubaneswar) worth over Rs 25 lakh, five plots in different places of Ganjam district (Rs 3.20 lakh), household articles (Rs 5.07 lakh), investment in different insurance companies (Rs 29.25 lakh), deposits in various banks (Rs 10.26 lakh).
Patra had joined as JE in 1997 as a contractual employee. His job was regularised on August 20, 2015, the SP (vigilance) said.
