A junior engineer (JE) working with a government power company was today caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a complainant, Lokayukta police said.
A six-member police team from Lokayukta Sagar nabbed the JE, K L Kushwaha, while he was accepting Rs 2,000 as bribe from one Praveendra Gupta for raising the height of the 11,000 KV line near his house in Palera town, about 65 kms from here, Lokayukta Inspector L N Tiwari told reporters.
The JE allegedly demanded Rs 7,000 from Gupta for raising the height of the line and had already taken Rs 5,000 as advance from him.
However, Gupta tipped-off Lokayukta sleuths before paying Rs 2,000 following which a trap was laid and he was caught.
Kushwaha was arrested by the Lokayukta sleuths and was later released on bail.
A case was registered against him under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act in this regard.
