The action came after Hussain today made a surprise visit at the laboratory.
The minister has directed Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter within a week. A show cause notice has also been issued to the zonal officer in connection with the matter.
"During the inspection, a number of irregularities were noticed. The laboratory was found closed despite (it being a) working day. When the minister sought an explanation from the officers concerned, they could not offer any immediate cogent reason for the same," a senior government official said.
"During the visit, minister also noticed that a number of verification certificates were lying prepared without any supporting documents such as bill of repairer etc., apparently in violation of the rules.
"The record of the official documents was also not found satisfactory by him. The functioning of calibration equipments for auto/taxi metres was also not found upto the mark," the official said.
