The 32nd sub junior and 42nd Junior National Aquatics Championship would be held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, from July 13-19.
Over 1,400 participants, representing 28 states, are expected to take part in the disciplines of swimming, diving and water polo in the sub-junior (under 12) and junior (under 18) age groups, said a media release issued on behalf of the Swimming Federation of India.
These championships would also act as the selection trials for the upcoming 8th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships (at Bangkok, Thailand, from October 1-7).
Around 100 races would be held during the championships and close to 300 medals are at stake.
Hosts Maharashtra, along with Karnataka -- the two powerhouses in Indian aquatics -- would bring the largest contingents of over 120 participants each. There is also a grand trophy for the state winning the maximum points.
