Rawlins 124 (16x2, 2x6) and Jacks 66 (10x4) shared an unbeaten sixth wicket stand of 131 runs to help stabilise England's first innings at the VCA Stadium at Jamtha near here.
The visitors, batting first, were struggling at one for the loss of three wickets early in the day before Rawlins and Jacks studied the ship with controlled aggression and fluent stroke play.
However, Rawlins, in company of Ollie Pope (42), partially restored the innings with a 4th wicket stand of 98 to enable England reach 99 before the latter fell to Harsh Tyagi.
He was soon followed by Evan woods (06) as the visitors reeled at 112 for five with Indian bowlers dominating the proceedings.
