The Prize offers mid-career Indian artists upto the age of 45, who have put up a solo show anywhere in the country during the past one year, an opportunity to showcase their work within India as well as abroad.
"We're delighted to have onboard such a distinguished jury. We aim to build on the reputation the award has established as a benchmark of artistic quality, while also attracting new voices through the Breakthrough Artist Award" Girish Shahane, Director of Art, the Skoda Prize said.
The second and third place winners would be offered month long residencies in Switzerland and the top 20 artists shortlisted by the jury will have their works exhibited at the 2013 India Art Fair here as well as be represented in the annual Skoda Prize book.
The organizers will also recognize a "breakthrough" artist in a separate Skoda Prize Breakthrough Artist Award presented by Art India magazine. The prize includes a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a trophy.
Madhuban Mitra and Manas Bhattacharya were the recipients of the first Breakthrough Artist award that comprised a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Artists Navin Thomas and Mithu Sen have won the previous editions of the Prize, that was launched in 2009 by Skoda Auto India and 70EMG with support from museums and global cultural institutions.
