IGP, Correctional Services, Arun Kumar Gupta said, this was part of an initiative to bring the inmates to the mainstream of society.
Gupta lauded the effort of the NGO, Rakshak Foundation to rehabilitate the prisoners and said, the correctional home authorities believed they should be given a chance to lead a new life.
"We had always been supporting such a move," Gupta said.
Rakshak Foundation Managing Trustee Chaitali Das, who had initiated the move in collaboration with the jail authorities, said while 40 convicts were initially chosen for the project, 15 were finally shortlisted for today's show as they had acquired the necessary skill during workshops.
The products will be sold online on the eve of Durga Puja and also from outlets, she said.
"We zeroed in on jute as it has been a part of Bengalis' life for ages," she said.
