Juvenile court asks minor convict to do community service

Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Phulbani convicted Ganesh Panda (13) on the charges of theft.

The JJB in its order said that Ganesh would sweep the local Jagannath Temple everyday for one hour from 6 AM to 7 AM every day.

According to the prosecution, the teenage boy of Peonpada in Phulbani town was working as a domestic help in the house of the complainant R N Kanhar.

On March 29, 2012 Ganesh allegedly looted cash of Rs 4000 and an ATM card while working in side the house. Soon after the incident the boy fled away to Bhubaneswar.

Acting upon the FIR lodged by Kanhar, a case was registered and referred to the JJB, Phulbani for trial.

The JJB hoped that the boy's outlook towards life would change if he continued to involve himself in community service like doing something for the people at the temple.

The Principal Magistrate also directed the District Probation officer to watch the activities of the boy and report the matter to the JJB in every quarter, Siba Prasad Tripathy APP of the CJM court here informed.
