Karnataka Government will send for the Governor's assent the bill to amend the Lokayukta Act for simplifying the process for removal of Lokayukta in a couple of days.
"Both Houses have passed the bill and in a day or two it will go to the Governor for assent. When the Governor gives the assent, the next process starts," Karnataka Law Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters here.
The next process would start after the Governor gives his consent to the bill, the minister added.
Amendment to the Lokayukta Act, which simplifies the process for removal of Lokayukta, was passed during the recently-concluded session of the Karnataka Legislature in the wake of an alleged scam in the office of the anti-corruption ombudsman Y Bhaskar Rao involving his son.
Stressing that Lokayukta should be made accountable to the Legislature, he said that three amendments had been made to the Lokayukta Act.
"Specifically, we have made an amendment that performance report of the Lokayukta is necessary and it should be placed before both the Houses before October 31," he added.
The bill, which was tabled in the Karnataka Assembly in the wake of controversy over an alleged bribery scandal that has hit the state's anti-corruption ombudsman with growing clamour for his removal, was passed last month.
