Having credited Kabir Suman for turning a new phase in Bengali songs in 1992, more life-oriented, one of the most promising new generation directors Srijit Mukherjee said the modern balladeer has also inspired him to speak his words on celluloid.
The Jaatishwar director said, "I got the chance, the urge, the space to make a film because of Sumanda blazing the trail in 1992. Because of Sumanda having started penning his own lyrics during the time which encouraged people in their respective fileds to think differently."
Srijit, having made four critically acclaimed yet successful films already, said the musical the story capturing life of 19th century Bengali language folk-poet Hensman Anthony, popularly known as Anthony Firingee and a parallel phase freezing contemporary times, wouldnot have been possible without Suman's mentoring which always stuck to historic authenticity.
The male protagonist and lead character Prosenjit Chatterjee said, "It was a musical which retained the essence of Bangaliana (Bengaliness) but surpassing the tradition of previous musicals like Amar Sangfee and Apan Amar Apan. Arekti Premer Galpo actor Jishu Sengupta, said it was a tale of wearing masks and how to take that off which freezes the contemporary phase, in which part he is portraying a Gujrati having known Prosenjit's character.
"Bengali films are going places as proved in IFFI honour for two Bengali movies and Srijitda is also one of the best," Jishu, who also starred in Chitrangada said.
The film, produced by Reliance Entertainment and Rana Sarkar, has 20 songs with some lyrics penned by Kabir Suman.
