Kalam opens painting exhibition in Delhi

Former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam inaugurated a painting exhibition of noted artist S V Rama Rao, here at a city-based art gallery and said the works of the painter will surely send a message of "creativity and concentration" to art lovers.
"Artistic works are born out of creativity and imagination of great minds with thirst for excellence. Excellence is not by accident...His exhibition is a celebration of colours."
"I am sure it will send out a message of creativity and concentration to the art lovers in the city," Kalam said, inaugurating the exhibition titled 'Nature's Abstract Glory' late last evening and the day coincided with World Earth Day.
"In all these works I see different characters and beauty of imagination... They are all a celebration of colours and imagination," he said.
Born in Gudivada town of Andhra Pradesh, currently based in United States, 77-year-old Rama Rao has exhibited his work with leading artist such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Georges Bracque, Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, and Jackson Pollock.
Rao won the 1962 Commonwealth fellowship to go to London and join the Slade School of Fine Arts, London University. Among his many exhibitions in India and abroad, the artist achieved acclaim and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2001.
The exhibition which has on display 26 of his works is an "invitation to the land of colours" and will be exhibited at the Dhoomimal Art Gallery till May 20.
The former President also relaunched the Gallery's art bulletin.
