When the Criminal Original Petition of Maran, Chairman of Sun Group, came up for hearing today, Justice K B K Vasuki directed Additional Public Prosecutor to get instructions from respondents and posted it to September 8 for further hearing.
Maran, grand nephew of DMK President M Karunanidhi, sought quashing of further proceedings on the file of Inspector of Police, Central Crime Branch, Vepery, Chennai, on the complaint by one P.V.Sivaprasad, proprietor of Video Today, to the city Commissioner of Police on July 21 last.
In spite of several letters to pay the commission which accumulated to Rs.1,03,79,885, the company did not respond, the complainant had alleged.
Sivaprasad futher stated that when he visited the Kal Communications office here on July 14 last, he was not allowed and some staff told him the company belonged to Kalanithi Maran and they would not pay the money. They also threatened that if he went to the police, his entire family would be 'wiped out'.
He personally never met the complainant and on the day of his visiting he was not even in the country. Without any basis, the complaint was registered against him.
