The complainant approached the MIDC police yesterday and lodged a formal complaint against his brother Jayanand, they said.

"Jayraj's complaint alleges that in 2005 Jayanand moved the printing machinery from the family's printing press in MIDC, Andheri to his own press in Mhape, Navi Mumbai," said Suresh Hujband, senior police inspector at MIDC police station.

"Jayanand then started using the machinery for his own printing venture without the family's consent and did not give the family a share of the profits earned," he said.

After recording Jayraj's statement, the police registered a complaint of fraud against Jayanand, who, according to Jayraj, has cheated the family to the tune of Rs one crore from 2005 till date, police said.

Hujband, however, said that the police will not be making any arrests before fully verifying the complaint and completing other inquiries.

"We have only registered the FIR on Friday, and there are a lot of inquiries to be conducted before we make any arrests," the officer said.

Kalnirnay is a hugely popular almanac in Maharashtra printed in different languages.

According to police, there have been several property disputes between the two brothers, and hence, when Jayanand fraudulently spirited away the machinery from Jayraj's firm, it led to more bad blood between them.
