In a big relief to Union Minister Kalraj Mishra, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to withdraw a six-year-old case of violation of Election Commission's Model Code of Conduct against him.
"The government has decided to withdraw the case registered against Mishra during 2009 Lok Sabha elections and the decision has been conveyed to the special prosecution officer (SPO), who will submit it before the concerned court," District Magistrate Om Narain Singh said.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pilibhit had been repeatedly issuing non-bailable warrants against the minister because of non-appearance before the court, despite repeated summons and the next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 21.
The FIR was lodged on March 28, 2009 when Misra and his supporters stormed the court and damaged government property in spite of section 144 CrPC that prohibits unlawful assembly being in force.
Misra and his supporters had stormed the court when the then Pilibhit MP and BJP leader Varun Gandhi surrendered in connection with a hate speech case.
