Kalyan couple arrested for cheating and practising witchcraft

The Thane police arrested a couple from Kalyan for alleged charges of cheating a married couple, "practicing witchcraft" on them cheating them of Rs 33.35 lakh under the pretext of "curing" them, the police said here today.
Assistant police inspector P M Yezre of the Kolsewadi police told PTI that the arrested couple Ramesh Kisan Tikhe and Malan Ramesh Tikhe, who are both around 40 years, approached victims Nanda Dekate (49) and her husband, who are both railway employees and convinced them that they were suffering from a certain "disease", which they could "cure".
The arrested couple allegedly practised "witchcraft" on the couple, pretended to "treat" them and took a total sum of Rs 33.35 lakh from the couple as cheques and cash, besides also taking away their motorbike.
They also claimed that the couple's daughter is suffering from "disease" and undertook to "cure" her. Under that pretext, the couple's daughter was touched inappropriately and molested, the couple said in their complaint to the police last evening.
According to the complaint, the racket went on between August 2009 to November 2014.
The police have charged the couple under Section 354, Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code and also Section 3 of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice, Inhuman, Evil, Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, the police said.
