Agitating students and employees of Kalyani University demanding the VC's resignation today went on a rampage assaulting two senior officials and injuring them and also damaged CCTV cameras and furniture in the varsity premises.
Estate in-charge Pratap Santra and Admission Committee Chairperson Prof Sujata Chowdhury were beaten up and injured by the agitators this morning, police said.
The agitators were demanding the resignation of VC Rattan Lal Hangloo claiming that the results of 10,000 undergraduate students of colleges affiliated to the university were declared as incomplete a month ago.
Hangloo rubbished the claims saying, "The incomplete results of 380 students are being processed and would be declared soon."
Meanwhile, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee condemned the assault on the officials and asked the students and employees to lift the gherao.
"They should not have assaulted the officials. This is not the right thing. Tomorrow I will go to Kalyani University and talk to all the stakeholders. I have asked the agitating students and employees to lift the gherao," he told reporters.

The injured officials have been admitted to a local hospital.
The VC claimed they have been trying to invoke a rule of law and instill discipline in the university campus which some of the employees and students dislike.
