The Communist Party of India on Wednesday charged the BJP and the Sangh Parivar with having falsely implicated former JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar in criminal cases lodged here and in his native district of Begusarai in the past few days.
Addressing a press conference, CPI leaders Jabbar Alam and Ram Naresh Pandey alleged that Kumar faced a threat to his life from the BJP-RSS combine which was miffed by the enormous public support the young leader is receiving everywhere and urged the Bihar government to provide adequate security to the former JNUSU president.
Kanhaiya Kumar was prevented from meeting a friend admitted at AIIMS, Patna on Sunday by doctors sympathetic towards the BJP who called him anti-national. They later on levelled false charges against him and got an FIR registered. The state health minister Mangal Pandey stoked the fire by his own remarks," the CPI leaders alleged.
An FIR was lodged at the Phulwarisharif police station on Monday by doctors who alleged that Kumar and his supporters had thrashed an intern on the previous night and snatched his mobile besides beating up a security guard who tried to intervene.
Pandey, who is a BJP leader, had said that he has sought a detailed report on the incident from the Director of AIIMS, Patna and remarked Bihar is not JNU where you can get away with anything.
Two years ago, while he was the JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar was slapped with sedition charges and sent to jail for taking part in a demonstration staged on the varsitys premises where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
The CPI leaders also alleged that the Begusarai residents who clashed with Kumars supporters on Monday night were supporters of the BJP, the RSS and the Bajrang Dal.

Police had said that the clash that erupted in Bhagwanpur police station area of Begusarai had resulted in injuries to two local residents and damage to a number of vehicles belonging to Kumars supporters who were accompanying him while he was returning home after addressing a public meeting.
An FIR was lodged at Bhagwanpur against Kumar and his supporters in connection with the incident on Tuesday while a counter FIR was lodged at Barauni by the former student leader, associated with the Left-affiliated AISF, along with his supporters.
Ever since Kumar has embarked on holding rallies titled Bhaajpa Harao Desh Bachao (defeat the BJP and save the country), his life has become imperiled. Given the vindictive character of the Sangh Parivar, the Centre and the state government should take serious note, provide the young leader with adequate security and immediately withdraw all the false cases lodged against him, the CPI leaders said.
The Left parties, which would contest the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar unitedly and possibly have an electoral understanding with the Congress-RJD alliance, have indicated that Kumar may be fielded from Begusarai, which had been a CPI stronghold till the 1990s.
