Two days after the murder of two workers belonging to CPI(M) and BJP in the district, the senior Congress MP also asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take steps to establish permanent peace in Kannur.
"Both BJP and CPI(M) are equally responsible for unending political violence in Kannur. They must end the policy of "an eye for an eye" and "a tooth for a tooth to establish peace in the district", he said.
The two party workers had been hacked to death in what is suspected to be a fallout of the rivalry between the two parties in the politically volatile district two days ago.
In the Assembly yesterday, UDF had tried to corner both CPI-M, the lead partner in the ruling LDF, and BJP over the murder, saying they had failed to control the activities of their cadres and statements "encouraging violence" from certain leaders of these parties also cause concern.
