Senior Superintendent of Police K S Emmanuel said all heavy vehicles on NH-58 (Delhi-Dehradun highway) passing through Ghaziabad will be converted in one-way.
Kanwar Marg (Ganges-canal road) from Muradnagar to Roorkee will be an additional way. This route will be closed for light-motor vehicles. Unregistered vehicles like 'Jugad' and tractors will not be allowed to ply, he said.
Keeping in mind past violent clashes between 'Kanwadias' and the public on roads, the officer said CCTV cameras will be affixed at hidden places to keep a continuous vigil across the roads. Two camera drones will also be deployed and 19 watch towers erected in the city to avert such incidents.
Two constables equipped with binoculars, flash lights and automatic weapons will be deputed on every watch tower and 200 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic points, officer added.
The 'Yatra' will end on August 1 when devotees offer the holy Ganga water to the 'Shivlings'.
The 'Kanwar Yatra' is an annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva, to Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar.
