Kapu reservation won't affect BCs, says AP minister

Andhra Pradesh minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu today said the proposed reservation for the Kapus will in no way affect the interests of BCs currently getting quota benefits.
Early this month, the Andhra Pradesh assembly passed a legislation to provide 5 per cent reservation for the Kapu community in government jobs and educational institutions. The government has included the community in the backward classes by creating a separate category 'F'.
Ramakrishnudu said quota to the Kapus has been provided under a separate category and the step will in no way affect the existing reservation for the people from backward classes (BCs).
The Finance Minister was speaking to reporters after reviewing the development activities of East Godavari district with officials here.
He said the reservation to the Kapus was confined to education and jobs and political posts will not be covered under it.
The minister the decision was taken to fulfil the promise made to the Kapus in the TDP manifesto.
Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting with officials, he said the funds allotted to various department for the current financial year should be spent before March-end.
