Having made the cut, Kapur will have the chance to make amends over the weekend. Kapur shot 69 in the first round and carded 74 in the second.
However, Gaganjeet Bhullar missed out on the chance to stay over for the weekend with rounds of 75-76 on a breezy day.
American Peter Uihlein shot 68 to go with his first 67 to go into lead one, shot clear of Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat (69).
Uihlein totalled nine-under 135 to Kiradech's 136. Kapur birdied fourth and eighth but in between dropped shots on fifth and seventh.
Uihlein matched Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat's five birdies - with the last the last coming at the ninth, his final hole - but made just one bogey to the Thai's two at Genzon Golf Club, in Shenzhen.
Uihlein's compatriot Bubba Watson, two-time Masters winner in 2012 and 2014, meanwhile, finished day two on level par after struggling with the conditions in a round of 74. Watson is lying tied 42nd at even par 144.
