Kargil gets first women police cell

Kargil in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir has got its first women's police cell that will further strengthen measures taken by the administration to check crimes against women in the region.
The cell at police post Kargil Bazaar was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police (Kargil) Shailendra Mishra who appealed the fairer sex to come forward and avail the services of the cell.
"The Women Cell will definitely make Kargil a better and safer place for women of Kargil," the officer said.
A programme titled "Huqooqe Khawateen" (the rights of women) was held which was attended by about 350 women volunteers including those from Islamia School Kargil, IKMT Kargil, Anjumane Saheb Zamaan and students from various institutions of Kargil.
The speakers shed light on various topics related to women like domestic violence, women rights, status of women in Islam and need for women cell in Kargil and was followed by a short play staged by Ranthaq Theatre group Kargil.
