Karna assembly pays tributes to Thakur, Mahishi and Laxman

Karnataka Assembly today payed rich tributes to former Governor Rameshwar Thakur, former Union Minister and the first woman member of the Parliament from the state Sarojini Mahishi, and eminent Cartoonist R K Laxman.
As soon as the House met for the day, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa read out the obituary reference paying rich tributes to Thakur, Mahishi and Laxman- remembering their contribution to the society.
The House also remembered seven former MLAs who have passed away during the inter-session period.
They are Balasaheb Sarawadi, Raghunath Vithal Kadam, Seetharama Vasudeva Nayak, Nagappa Ningappa Bellad, Prof P M Chikka Boraiah, R S Patil and Narayanrao Manahalli.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Opposition Leader Jagadish Shettar and JD (S) leader Y S V Datta remembered Thakur for his participation in the Quit India Movement and his pro-public work as the Governor of Karnataka during the President's Rule in the state in 2007 and 2008. Thakur breathed his last on January 15.
Remembering Mahishi for the report she submitted to the Karnataka government in 1986, which recommended job reservation for Kannadigas, leaders said she has become a household name in the state because of her immense contribution to the people of Karnataka.

Mahishi died on January 25 at her residence in Ghaziabad on the outskirts of Delhi.
Hailing Laxman for his cartoons, Siddaramaiah said, "we are proud that he was from Mysore. Laxman represented the feelings of common man with his cartoons, and his work threw light on the political system of the time along with an element of comedy."
Laxman died on January 26 in Pune.
Siddaramaiah specially remembered Chikka Boraiah under whom he practiced as a junior, calling him 'Guru'.
The House observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect for the departed personalities.
