Karnataka Cabinet clears Panchayat Raj act amendments

Karnataka Cabinet today cleared the Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill and it will be tabled in the coming session of the legislature.
The bill has more than 110 amendments including fixing the tenure of the President (of local bodies) to five years, and 73rd amendment of the Constitution is the base for all the recommendations made, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters here.
"A committee had been formed under the Chairmanship of Ramesh Kumar after deliberations he had suggested many amendments to the Panchayat Raj Act, on that a Cabinet sub- committee was formed and many suggestions came supporting the amendments; all of them were discussed and we have agreed to that," he said.
The state legislature will meet from November 16 to 27 in Bengaluru.
The Cabinet has also decided to set up an art museum in the 468-acre Tataguni Estate, where the legendary Russian artist Svetoslav Roerich and his actress wife Devika Rani lived.
"The project is estimated to cost about Rs 25 crore, we have approved it," Jayachandra said.
He also said the Cabinet had authorized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take next steps in the wake of resignation of Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar.
The Cabinet has set up a sub-committee under the leadership of Law Minister to look into all the aspects with respect to central government authorizing states to auction minor minerals.
