The object of the census, undertaken once in five years, is to count livestock, poultry and equipment used in the Animal Husbandry sector of all households, enterprises and institutions in the State, Commissioner in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Adoni Syed Saleem told reporters here.
Along with the Animal Husbandry department,the enumeration work under the 19th livestock census would be undertaken with the cooperation and coordination of various departments including revenue, education and women and child development.
"In case of shortage in appointing enumerators, apart from government officials, educated unemployed youths are deployed as enumerators", Saleem RPT Saleem said.
Officers at block, district and state levels are drawn from the Animal Husbandry Department to supervise and monitor the census, which would conclude on Oct 15, at every level extensively in areas under their jurisdiction, Saleem said.
The State has 3.28 crore livestock and 4.24 crore poultry, as per the 2007 census.
