An order to this effect was issued by Urban Development Department Secretary R Mahesh Kumar. Belgaum District Deputy Commissioner Anbukumar has been appointed administrator of the corporation, according to the notification issued here.

The civic body was superseded by the state government on December 15 last year for its failure to perform duties in accordance with the Karnataka Municipal Act.

However, the Dharwad bench of the Karnataka High Court on June 19 struck down the government action and directed that statements from corporators be obtained individually seeking explanation on the charges levelled against the corporation.

The government obtained statements from corporators individually on June 25.

The state government has accused the civic body of not holding General Meetings and Meetings of Standing Committees as per rules.

Only 18 General meetings were held as against the stipulated 44 and 16 Standing Committee meetings were held as against the required number of 160.

Taking cognisance of acts of omission and commission, the corporation was superseded.
