"Your abiding interest in the youth of our country and your earnest commitment to the advancement of rural areas and farmers are all well-known," the DMK chief, whose party has been an ally of ruling Congress since the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, said in a faxed message to the Amethi MP.
"During your tenure as the Vice-President, I am quite sure that you will take the Congress party to a new height," he said extending 'hearty congratulations.'
Gandhi was formally elevated to the number two position in the party yesterday with the Congress Working Committee taking the decision to make him Vice-President.
