The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has "taken suo motu cognisance of violence in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj and sought a detailed report from the state government.
NCM Chairman Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi directed the commission's secretary to seek a report from the Uttar Pradesh government with details of arrests made, FIRs registered and steps taken to restore normalcy in the strife-torn city.
"The Chief Secretary, UP, may be asked to send the report within five days," he said.
Violence erupted in Kasganj last week after 22-year-old Chandan Gupta was killed in clashes following stone-pelting on a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate Republic Day.
The prime accused in Gupta's killing was arrested today.
